Sad Times

I’m sure by now you’ve heard about the police shootings in Oakland. My husband and I heard the endless sirens on Saturday. On and on, and then on some more. At the time, I thought the only thing that could cause such a commotion was an officer down. The 7300 block of MacArthur is about 5 miles from my house and the quickest way for some officers to access that location is to fly onto the I-580 ramp by my house. And fly they did, sirens wailing, each one joining the already in progress chorus.

It wasn’t until Sunday, when I got on the internet, that I discovered how devastating Saturday’s events were. I am shocked, saddened and deeply sorry for the officers’ families.

Then, a cold wind started and hasn’t let up. The sun is shining and the days look pleasant, but they’re not. The wind is bitter and will pierce your skin, particularly if you’re thinned skinned like me.

I love Oakland. I do, but just not right now. All I can think about is our four dead officers. I’m sure Oakland will have better days soon, but these last few days haven’t felt so good. RIP, officers and though I didn’t get to say it while you were alive, “Thank you.”

I feel for them and their families. We’re leaving town for a few days. I won’t have the computer or the news, which is a good break from everything going on.

  2. This is a tragic event. I can only imagine the impact it has on a community. My thoughts are with the family members of each fallen hero!

I wonder if it’ll ever change.

  4. Have a good one Worldphotos. I’ll catch ya on the flip flop.

Connie, it has been horrible. I can’t even imagine to poor officers’ families. My heart goes out to them too.

I don’t know, Galli. You know I thought it was getting better here because of the increase in police but now this. So sad.
